The Monache Marauders came tearing into Saturday's match with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top in a nail-biter against San Joaquin Memorial and snuck past 62-59. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Monache's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Milly Rojas led the charge by scoring 17 points along with three steals. Rojas is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 17 or more in the last three games she's played. Alisha Verdejo was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and six steals.
Monache is on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 25-2 record this season. As for San Joaquin Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 15-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monache will challenge the Pioneers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Whitney has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 21. As for San Joaquin Memorial, they will head out on the road to take on the Coyotes at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Madera will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 445th, while the Panthers are ranked 97th).
