Olympian is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Otay Ranch is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Eagles will host the Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Olympian had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Windward on Thursday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 11-1 win. Considering the Eagles have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Luis Mercado spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sebastian Diaz, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Nico Cintron, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Otay Ranch). They blew past Monte Vista 13-3 on Thursday. The Mustangs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 26, 2024.
Santiago Araiza looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jake Medina was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Victor Bennett, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Otay Ranch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monte Vista only posted an OBP of .333.
Olympian has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3-1 record this season. As for Otay Ranch, their victory bumped their record up to 10-4.
