The Blackhawk Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 67-28 blowout they got on the road against Hopewell. Given Blackhawk's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Hopewell is ranked 362nd), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Blackhawk's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alena Fusetti, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 1 assists. Another player making a difference was Andrea Kinger, who scored 16 points.
Despite the loss, Hopewell had strong showings from Avery Boyd, who scored ten points, and Caylee Sundy, who scored 11 points along with three steals. The match was Sundy's third in a row with at least ten points.
Hopewell struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Blackhawk is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. As for Hopewell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-6.
Blackhawk will head out on the road to face off against Ambridge at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Hopewell, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Quaker Valley at 6:30 p.m.
