Atkins is on a four-game streak of home losses, High Point Central a five-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Atkins Camels will take on the High Point Central Bison at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Atkins was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 32-28 to Northeast Guilford.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kaydence Watson, who rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Elliott, who rushed for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, High Point Central pushed their score all the way to 32 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 38-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ben L. Smith. High Point Central gained 143 more yards on the day, but it was Ben L. Smith that made the best of use of them.
High Point Central might have lost, but man, Davon Clark was a machine: he rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, and also threw for 177 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Clark is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last seven games he's played. Kamari Westray was another key contributor, picking up 109 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Atkins has not been sharp this season, as they've lost seven of their first eight contests, which leaves them at a 1-7 record this season. As for High Point Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Atkins has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 148.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like High Point Central struggles in that department as they've been even better at 166.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Atkins didn't have too much breathing room in their game against High Point Central in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, but they still walked away with a 12-8 victory. Does Atkins have another victory up their sleeve, or will High Point Central turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
