Cordova is 0-8 against McClatchy since March of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Lancers will venture away from home to square off against the Lions at 4:00 p.m.
Cordova fell victim to Bradshaw Christian and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pride. Considering the last time the Lancers couldn't score was back in February, the team can't take the result too hard.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when McClatchy faced off against Woodland Christian on Wednesday. The Lions put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 9-1 victory. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.
Ari Silva was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off nine hits (and not a single walk). Silva was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and one run.
In other batting news, McClatchy let Elias Ortega and Antonio Barber run wild. Ortega went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Barber went 1-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave Barber a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zevi Pruger, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
McClatchy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Cordova, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cordova has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like McClatchy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Cordova couldn't quite finish off McClatchy in their previous meeting back in February and fell 2-0. Can the Lancers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
