Baseball Game Preview: Alexander Cougars vs. New Manchester Jaguar

Alexander is a perfect 10-0 against New Manchester since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Jaguar at 6:00 p.m. Alexander will be strutting in after a win while New Manchester will be coming in after a defeat.

While Alexander's victory against Campbell wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Spartans 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since March 21st.

Brayden Mathis looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Alexander's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 7-14 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jackson Lewachowicz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josh Sellers, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, New Manchester lost 7-1 to Kennesaw Mountain last Friday. The Jaguar have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The win made it two in a row for Alexander and bumps their season record up to 10-15. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for New Manchester, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.

Alexander took their win against New Manchester when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-1 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Jaguar have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
