The Lassen Grizzlies will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Las Plumas Thunderbirds at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lassen is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
If Lassen beats Las Plumas with five runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Lassen walked away with a 5-1 win over Durham on Saturday.
Zayn Wright was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Gaven Mueller tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 5.2 innings pitched. That one hit allowed gave him a new career-low.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Peyton Garate, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Trevor Schaap also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Las Plumas). They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over West Valley two weeks ago. The Thunderbirds not only won two weeks ago, but they posted their biggest win since April 19, 2024.
Bryson Hutcheson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Las Plumas is 1-0-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-3 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Las Plumas saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colton Rosauer, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Ethan Gramps was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Lassen pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.67 hits in those games compared to only 5.6 in the others. As for Las Plumas, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3-2.
Lassen couldn't quite get it done against Las Plumas when the teams last played back in March of 2018 as they fell 5-0. Will Lassen have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
