Video: Top 25 national baseball rankings
Argyle lands atop the rankings after going 71-1-1 over past two seasons.
Bobby Witt Jr. and Colleyville Heritage went wire-to-wire during the 2019 baseball season.
As a team, Colleyville Heritage was the favorite to win the Class 5A state championship at the beginning of the season and it did not disappoint as it defeated Georgetown 14-2 in the championship game.
Witt Jr. did the same. At the beginning of the season, he was tabbed as the nation's top high school prospect by every publication in the nation. Witt Jr. came through with an incredible season that saw him earn All-State honors and Dallas all-area Player of the Year recognition. He was also the No. 2 overall player selected in the MLB Draft, going to the Kansas City Royals.
Witt Jr. also statistically ranked among the top players in the nation. His 15 home runs ranked second in the country, according to the MaxPreps leader boards, and he also was fourth in the country in runs scored with 65. He batted .482 with 55 RBI, 14 doubles and 9 triples.
The son of former MLB pitcher Bobby Witt Sr., the younger Witt has also been named as the MaxPreps National Player of the Year. He heads the MaxPreps All-American teams, which includes 60 players on a first and second team.
John Weber of Cypress (Calif.) is the MaxPreps National Coach of the Year. He led the Centurions to a No. 3 overall ranking in the MaxPreps Top 50 national baseball rankings with a record of 31-3 while winning the Southern Section Division 1 championship — arguably one of the toughest playoff brackets in the country.
The title was the first Division 1 title in school history and along the way Cypress defeated some of the nation's top programs, including Orange Lutheran, La Mirada, Yucaipa, and Harvard-Westlake.
