The Discovery Spartans will square off against the Santa Fe Catholic Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Discovery knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Santa Fe Catholic likes a good challenge.
Discovery's tournament run continued when they took on Palm Beach Lakes last Saturday. Discovery secured a 76-72 W over Palm Beach Lakes. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Rams are ranked 439th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jeremy Nixon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 28 points and eight rebounds. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Another player making a difference was Jordan Gunter, who posted 16 points and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Santa Fe Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They breezed by Lake Region to the tune of 67-26 on Monday. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 22 points or more this season.
Discovery better keep an eye on Tate Darner. He was instrumental in Santa Fe Catholic's win, going 12 of 13 on his way to 29 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Knox, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 17 points.
Santa Fe Catholic's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-7. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.7 points. As for Discovery, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Discovery and Santa Fe Catholic are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Discovery hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 71.6 points per game. However, it's not like Santa Fe Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 63.6 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Discovery came up short against Santa Fe Catholic when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 58-52. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Darner, who put up 21 points and three steals. Now that Discovery knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time?
