York extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-7. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Poland Knights. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.
Robbie Hanscom led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Zach Tremblay, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Poland, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games.
On Poland's side, Landon Cooper made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave Cooper a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Mains, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Will Stanford was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. York will challenge Old Orchard Beach at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Poland, they will square off against Cape Elizabeth at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
