Baseball Recap: St. Joseph Wins Going Away Against Cabrillo

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times St. Joseph and Cabrillo have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Wednesday. The Knights put the hurt on the Conquistadores with a sharp 11-1 victory. The matchup marked the Knights' most dominant win of the season.

Niko Peinado was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, St. Joseph got a massive performance out of Thomas Jay Dugger, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Dugger has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Erik Furness, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

St. Joseph was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cabrillo only posted a batting average of .105.

St. Joseph's record is now 19-5. As for Cabrillo, they dropped their record down to 10-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

St. Joseph will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Conquistadores: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
