It was a good run, but the Lower Brule Sioux unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 73-65 to Wessington Springs. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (56), Lower Brule still had to take the loss.
Several Sioux players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lane Gray, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Gray has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Payton Palmier, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
Lower Brule's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-7. As for Wessington Springs, they pushed their record up to 13-1 with that victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Lower Brule will face off against the Flyers at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Wessington Springs, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warbirds at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in South Dakota (Wolsey-Wessington is ranked 33rd, while the Spartans are ranked 24th).
