The Pittsburg Pirates will take on the Heritage Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Pittsburg 1.7, Heritage 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Pittsburg's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Freedom on Thursday. The Pirates' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Pittsburg got a good showing from Desmond Toomer, who kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. What's more, Toomer gave up only zero hits, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Pittsburg saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaron Del Real, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.
Meanwhile, Heritage got themselves on the board against Deer Valley on Thursday, but Deer Valley never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 13-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
JZ McArthur and Anthony Bellone dominated on the mound. McArthur pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Bellone tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Heritage let Cooper Melissare and Nathan Reynolds run wild. Melissare went 1-for-5 with two runs and one double, while Reynolds went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Those three hits gave Reynolds a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Lingley, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Heritage kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive matches.
Heritage has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Pittsburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-2.
