Concord extended their losing streak to 11 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-15 in the process. They lost 9-1 to the Miramonte Matadors. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 9, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Concord saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justin Tougeron, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Tony Hoshida also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Miramonte, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-15. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.
On Miramonte's side, Casey Yung and Ian Hughes were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Yung didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Hughes tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Yung also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Miramonte is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-15 otherwise. At the plate, Yung got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Hughes got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Hughes has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, Miramonte let Preston Rguem and Tanner Strand run wild. Rguem went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Strand went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Rguem is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Concord will challenge rival Mt. Diablo at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Miramonte is set to face off against their familiar foe Las Lomas at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
