The San Marcos Knights suffered their biggest defeat since December 23, 2023 on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 65-37 loss at the hands of Westview. While losing is never fun, San Marcos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 378th, while Westview is ranked 97th).
When it comes to explaining why San Marcos lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kyra Quinn. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Christiana Samuel, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and two blocks.
San Marcos struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westview to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mia Jacobson, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Jacobson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Maren Zimmer was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
San Marcos has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season. As for Westview, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Marcos will take on Mission Hills at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Mission Hills is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 61.6 points per game. As for Westview, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Del Norte at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Del Norte focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday.
