Air Academy and Cheyenne Mountain are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2019, but likely not for long. The Kadets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Red-Tailed Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Air Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Cheyenne Mountain will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Air Academy extended their winning streak to three on Monday. The Kadets blew past Discovery Canyon 10-2. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since September 25, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Bailey Williams was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Williams was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keira Finkle, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alex Finkle, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.
Air Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Mesa Ridge hit Cheyenne Mountain with a four-run second inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red-Tailed Hawks fell 7-4 to the Grizzlies.
Maci Houger and Michaela (MJ) Ewen did some serious damage despite the final result: Houger went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Ewen went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Cheyenne Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Air Academy, their win bumped their record up to 14-3-1.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Air Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .381. However, it's not like Cheyenne Mountain struggles in that department as they've averaged .345. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
