The St. Lucy's Regents lost against the Upland Highlanders/Scots back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The New Year welcomed St. Lucy's with a 60-15 whooping from Upland. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points St. Lucy's has scored all season.
St. Lucy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kira Carroll, who scored five points along with three steals. Carroll is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games she's played.
Upland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taniyah D purnell led the charge by scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Havili Hinilei matelau, who scored 11 points.
St. Lucy's has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. As for Upland, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Lucy's will take on Chino Hills at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chino Hills is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Upland, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Los Osos at 4:45 p.m. Los Osos is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.6 points per game.
