Baseball Recap: Northside Comes Up Short

If Northside was feeling good fresh off their 15-0 takedown of Sumter County last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled against the Yellow Jackets recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Northside saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emerson Rugama, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The Eagles are 2-1 when Rugama posts two or more runs, but 3-16 otherwise. Justin Canceran was another, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Northside's defeat dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Thomas County Central, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-14.

Looking ahead, Northside will take on Howard at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Huskies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. Thomas County Central will be paying especially close attention to Northside's matchup: after Northside faces off against Howard, they'll take on Thomas County Central again at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
