The Canyon Springs Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Rancho Verde Mustangs at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Canyon Springs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Rancho Verde's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Canyon Springs blew Alta Loma out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Alta Loma got their revenge. The Cougars fell just short of the Lions by a score of 4-2. It was the first time this season that the Cougars let down their fans at home.
David Sedillo was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Rancho Verde, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Miller on Monday.
Jacob Cabral made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Caden Coppola was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jaydan Quintana, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Rancho Verde hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 11 consecutive games.
Rancho Verde has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Canyon Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Canyon Springs has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Rancho Verde struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Canyon Springs couldn't quite get it done against Rancho Verde in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 as they fell 6-2. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
