Having just played yesterday, the Turkeyfoot Valley Area Rams will get right back to it and host the Mapletown Maples at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around on Tuesday.
Turkeyfoot Valley Area suffered their biggest defeat since December 14, 2023 on Monday. They were outmatched by Union at home and fell 56-29. While losing is never fun, Turkeyfoot Valley Area can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 593rd in Pennsylvania, while Union is ranked 109th in West Virginia).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Maleigha Younkin, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and two steals. She hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Pepe, who scored five points.
Meanwhile, Mapletown's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 50-23 loss at the hands of West Greene. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Mapletown has suffered against West Greene since February 3, 2021.
This is the second loss in a row for Turkeyfoot Valley Area and nudges their season record down to 7-9. As for Mapletown, they bumped their record down to 5-9 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Turkeyfoot Valley Area came up short against Mapletown in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 41-33. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mapletown's Isabella Garnek, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Now that Turkeyfoot Valley Area knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
