If the Willows Honkers were feeling good off their 57-33 takedown of the Paradise Bobcats last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Willows lost to East Nicolaus on the road by a decisive 64-46 margin on Monday. Willows has not had much luck with East Nicolaus recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Willows lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being McKenzie Yang, who scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Yang has scored all season. Karla Sandoval DiMaggio was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Nicolaus to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rylee Gillespie, who scored 17 points along with six assists and three steals. Gillespie is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Hall, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Willows' defeat dropped their record down to 9-13. As for East Nicolaus, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Willows will be playing at home against Winters at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for East Nicolaus, they will head out on the road to challenge Pierce at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Pierce focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Monday.
