On Saturday, the Village Christian Crusaders faced the Ontario Christian Knights in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Village Christian was outmatched by Ontario Christian on the road and fell 91-50. Village Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-30.
Village Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Alanna Neale and Bryanne Lopez-wood. Neale dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds, while Lopez-wood scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and seven assists. The contest was Neale's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Moriah Mosley, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Village Christian were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Ontario Christian found their leader in underclassman Kaleena Smith, who scored 36 points along with three blocks. That makes it 17 consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least 25% of Ontario Christian's points. Karsen Marshall was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds.
Village Christian's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Ontario Christian, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Village Christian will take on Heritage Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Ontario Christian, they will be playing at home against Rancho Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
