This season hasn't been kind to the Newport Christian Seahawks, who are still winless after their tenth match. They took a 54-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Western Christian on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Newport Christian of the 41-15 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture on January 5th.
Western Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but CeCe Balderrama led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. Balderrama has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Jenna Mills was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Newport Christian dropped their record down to 0-10 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Western Christian, their win ended a 12-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-19.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing The Webb Schools the next time they take the court. Newport Christian will head out to face The Webb Schools at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while Western Christian will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
