The Enochs Eagles were the 47-39 winner over the Downey Knights when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Enochs took a 37-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of Downey. Enochs' loss continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Enochs lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Gurleen Gill, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds and five steals. Gill hasn't dropped below two blocks for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Quinones, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Downey's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nathalia Soto, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 steals. Alexis Monroy was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Enochs dropped their record down to 5-14 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Downey, their victory ended a nine-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Enochs will face off against Turlock at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Turlock is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games. As for Downey, they will head out on the road to take on Gregori at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Gregori knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Downey likes a good challenge.
