Atascadero and Morro Bay are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Greyhounds will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. The timing isn't great for Atascadero: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Morro Bay has snatched up eight consecutive wins on the road.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Atascadero and Templeton meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Greyhounds fell 12-9 to the Eagles.
Wyatt Litten was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Wanner, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Morro Bay hadn't done well against Santa Ynez recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Morro Bay put the hurt on Santa Ynez with a sharp 13-3 win. Considering Morro Bay has won eight matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Jack Deovlet, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Quentin Crotts, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs.
Morro Bay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Ynez only posted an OBP of .111.
Morro Bay has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Atascadero, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
Morro Bay's pitching crew better be locked in on Tuesday. Atascadero hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. It's a different story for Morro Bay, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Atascadero in the park?
Atascadero skirted past Morro Bay 5-4 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Do the Greyhounds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
