Lincoln County has gone a perfect 6-0 against Augusta Prep recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Red Devils will challenge the Cavaliers at 4:00 p.m. Lincoln County is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
Lake Oconee Academy hit Lincoln County with a seven-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red Devils came up short against the Titans, falling 14-4.
Augusta Prep never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Wardlaw Academy on Monday. They came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 13-10. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cavaliers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Dakota Dunn was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ayden Payne and Scott Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Payne went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs, while Williams went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Payne has become a key player for Augusta Prep: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Parker Hollimon, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Augusta Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Augusta Prep's record is now 7-3. As for Lincoln County, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.
Lincoln County got the 'W' in their previous matchup two weeks ago against Augusta Prep by a conclusive 16-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
