Westville had lost seven straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped down to 8-13 to make it eight. They came up short against the South Bend Riley Wildcats, falling 15-4. The Blackhawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.
Ryder Becker made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
As for South Bend Riley, they moved to 3-19 with that win, which also ended their 14-game losing streak. That 11-run margin sets a new team best for them this season.
On South Bend Riley's side, Lucas Wyckoff and Uriah Orozco made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Wyckoff pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Orozco didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because South Bend Riley is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-19 otherwise. At bat, Wyckoff went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Orozco went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Wyckoff has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Nolan Gundrum was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of South Bend Riley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-18 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Rylan Kring, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Westville and South Bend Riley are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Blackhawks will challenge Washington Township at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for South Bend Riley, they will square off against South Bend Adams at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
