Baseball Recap: Everett Alvarez's Losing Streak Snapped at Six Games

Everett Alvarez had lost six games straight , but after bumping their record up to 9-12 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They skirted past the North Monterey County Condors 6-4. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Condors on Wednesday, they had to take a 8-3 loss.

Ivan Chavez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on 13 hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Everett Alvarez is 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cody Victoriano, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

As for North Monterey County, they moved to 11-10 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. Condors fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against Everett Alvarez since on Friday.

On North Monterey County's side, Tyler Baldwin was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Baldwin was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

Baldwin wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Greg Jimenez, who went 3-for-4 with one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Everett Alvarez will venture away from home to take on Monte Vista Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for North Monterey County, they will head out on the road to challenge San Lorenzo Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
