The Mullen Broncos struggled with assists on Thursday (the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mullen fell 36-26 to Anselmo-Merna. Mullen lost against Anselmo-Merna in their previous head to head back in December of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 74-35 score last time.
Despite the loss, Mullen saw an underclassman step up: Hayley Donohoe scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Mullen struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Anselmo-Merna's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makenna Miller, who scored nine points along with five steals. Miller is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Rhianen Myers, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Mullen bumped their record down to 2-2 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Anselmo-Merna, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mullen won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cody-Kilgore on December 15th. Anselmo-Merna will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Burwell at 6:00 p.m. on December 16th.
