The Niwot Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Frederick Golden Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Niwot has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with seven straight losses, while Frederick will come in with three straight victories.
Niwot couldn't beat Broomfield on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the seventh inning. The Cougars took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles.
Payton Stokes was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Frederick got themselves on the board against Silver Creek on Tuesday, but Silver Creek never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Raptors. Considering the Golden Eagles have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Elayna Fisher's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ella Stromberg was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brealea Stendel, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Frederick was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Frederick's record now sits at 14-5. As for Niwot, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Niwot hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Frederick struggles in that department as they've averaged .381. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Niwot might still be hurting after the 13-4 loss they got from Frederick when the teams last played back in September of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
