The Moreau Catholic Mariners will head out on the road to face off against the James Logan Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Moreau Catholic posted their biggest win since December 12, 2023 on Thursday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 77-26 win over Newark Memorial. Given Moreau Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 206th, while Newark Memorial is ranked 790th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Madeline Bader was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with five assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Elisa Ortega, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, James Logan stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They blew past San Leandro 71-22 on the road. The win was familiar territory for James Logan who now have four in a row.
It was another big night for Vanessa Parilla, who scored 27 points along with seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cierra Gallardo, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Moreau Catholic pushed their record up to 10-9 with that win, which was their 16th straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.6 points per game. As for James Logan, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Wednesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Moreau Catholic have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 20.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for James Logan, though, as they've been averaging only 38.9 rebounds per game. Given Moreau Catholic's sizeable advantage in that area, James Logan will need to find a way to close that gap.
Moreau Catholic beat James Logan 65-56 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Moreau Catholic since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
