The Flour Bluff Hornets will face off against the Weslaco East Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Weslaco East will be up against a hot Flour Bluff squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. The Hornets really took it to Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial for the full four quarters, racking up a 72-14 win. With the Hornets ahead 51-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Lucian Cruz had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 187 yards and five TDs, while also punching in one touchdown on the ground. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Samuel Smith, who rushed for 86 yards and one score on only five carries.
Flour Bluff didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jacob Cain and Raymond Aguilar.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Weslaco East). Everything went their way against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial last Friday as they made off with a 34-14 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Wildcats just coasted through the last quarter.
Flour Bluff better keep an eye on Jay Herrera. He was instrumental in Weslaco East's win, rushing for 309 yards and four touchdowns on only nine carries. With that strong performance, Herrera is now averaging an impressive 141.8 rushing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Elias Rodriguez, who rushed for 183 yards while picking up 10.8 yards per carry.
Weslaco East was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 500 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 192 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Weslaco East's defense and their six sacks. Leading the way was Nehemias Munoz with four. Weslaco East got some further help from Salinas Dereck: he picked up a sack and made 21 total tackles.
Flour Bluff's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Weslaco East, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Everything came up roses for Flour Bluff against Weslaco East when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 49-14 win. In that contest, the Hornets amassed a halftime lead of 35-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
