The Taft Wildcats were the  47-29 winner over the Santa Maria Saints when they last played one another  back in December of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. Taft was the victim of a  tough 51-31 defeat at the hands of Santa Maria  on Saturday. That's two games in a row now that Taft has lost by exactly 20  points.
 Despite the loss, Taft still got an impressive performance from   Shelby Gregory, who  scored 16 points along with 7  rebounds.  Alaysia Taylor was another key contributor,  scoring 6 points along with 7  rebounds.
 Santa Maria's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was   Alyssa Reyes, who  scored 16 points along with 4  steals. Reyes is on a roll when it comes to  steals, as she's  now  stole two or more in the last four games she's  played. The team also got some help courtesy of  Nevaeh  Madrigal , who  scored 9 points along with 8  assists and 6  steals.
 Taft  still hasn't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3. Those losses could be blamed on the team's  offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.3 points per game. As for Santa Maria, the  win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-3.
 Taft's road trip will continue as they head out to face Golden Valley at 6:30  p.m.  on December 5th. As for Santa Maria, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Atascadero at 6:30  p.m.  on Tuesday.
