The Jones Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Amundsen Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Jones is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Jones' pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Kenwood by a score of 5-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
The team relied heavily on Chris Huang, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Madden Asbaty, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Amundsen made easy work of Farragut on Wednesday and carried off a 13-4 victory.
Mason Becker was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Becker was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other pitching news, John Timm looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Noah Gaietto was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Amundsen is undefeated when Gaietto posts two or more runs, but 5-6-1 otherwise. Shea O'Conor was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
Amundsen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Jones' record is now 12-5. As for Amundsen, their record now sits at 8-6-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Jones has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Amundsen struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
