Basketball Recap: Corning Drops Highest Score of Season Against Biggs

Corning scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 42-33 defeat to the Biggs Wolverines. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1113th, while the Wolverines are ranked 443rd).

Biggs was led to victory by Anna Carothers and Mailey Seipert. Carothers posted nine points along with eight steals and six rebounds, while Seipert put up ten points in addition to five boards and three steals. Carothers is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Bermudez, who scored six points and four steals.

Corning's loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Biggs, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season.

Corning didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 43-22 defeat against Oroville on the 14th. As for Biggs, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 57-33 loss against Quincy on the 14th.
