The Live Oak Acorns will face off against the Prospect Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Live Oak has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Live Oak turned things around against Ann Sobrato on Friday. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 4-3 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Live Oak's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jack Rice, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Prospect was able to grind out a solid win over Del Mar on Friday, taking the game 10-5. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Dons: they've now won nine in a row.
Jeremy Wang and Alex Hand were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Wang didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Hand tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Prospect is 4-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-6 otherwise. At the plate, Wang went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Hand went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Wang has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryce Pollace, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Prospect is undefeated when Pollace posts two or more runs, but 5-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Little, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Prospect hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Live Oak's win bumped their record up to 5-10-1. As for Prospect, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
