Hesperia is 9-1 against Apple Valley since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Hesperia Scorpions will host the Apple Valley Sun Devils at 6:00 p.m.
Last Thursday, Hesperia was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 61-60 to Burroughs. The defeat continues a trend for the Scorpions in their matchups with the Burros: they've now lost three in a row.
Hesperia's loss came about despite a quality game from Annabel Sanchez, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Paige Harralson, who posted 12 points.
Even though they lost, Hesperia was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burroughs only racked up eight assists.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Apple Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Serrano by a score of 44-36 on Thursday.
Hesperia better keep an eye on Elizabeth Searls. She was instrumental in Apple Valley's win, going 8 of 14 from beyond the arc on her way to 33 points. Those 33 points gave Searls a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mehr Ahluwalia, who had four points and three steals.
Apple Valley pushed their record up to 11-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Hesperia, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-11.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Hesperia has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Apple Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Hesperia came up short against Apple Valley when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 50-44. Can Hesperia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
