The Mt. Shasta Bears will head out on the road to challenge the Etna Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 13 consecutive losses for Mt. Shasta and four for Etna.
Mt. Shasta suffered their biggest defeat since December 8, 2023 on Tuesday. Their rough 43-23 defeat to Modoc might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Mt. Shasta can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1162nd, while Modoc is ranked 283rd).
Meanwhile, Etna suffered a rough 56-35 defeat at the hands of Weed on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Etna in their matchups with Weed: they've now lost six in a row.
Mt. Shasta dropped their record down to 1-17 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.7 points per game. As for Etna, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.
Mt. Shasta lost to Etna on the road by a decisive 39-22 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Mt. Shasta avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
