The Caston Comets will take on the Manchester Squires at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Caston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Caston got the win against LaVille by a conclusive 14-3. The win continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won six in a row.
Hadlie Coffing was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Coffing was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Caston let Kylee Logan and Myli Rude run wild. Logan got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Rude got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Alex Mersch, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.
Caston hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Manchester was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Peru, falling 8-1.
Manchester saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Audra Tobias, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Caston's victory bumped their record up to 3-10. As for Manchester, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Caston has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Manchester struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Caston took their win against Manchester in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Squires have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
