The Cherokee Trail Cougars will challenge the Broomfield Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cherokee Trail comes in on nine and Broomfield on eight.
If Cherokee Trail beats Broomfield with 15 runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Cougars didn't even let Mullen on the board on Tuesday, marking the Cougars' second-straight 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 11 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Leera Davis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Paige March was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Charlotte Aldridge, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Cherokee Trail hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive games.
Broomfield let Niwot stack four runs on them in the seventh inning on Tuesday but luckily Broomfield prevailed anyway. The Eagles walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Cougars.
The team relied heavily on Avery Gines, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Hernandez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Cherokee Trail's win bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Broomfield, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Cherokee Trail has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Broomfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
