When it comes to explaining why Newark Memorial lost, one person who can't be blamed is Angelina Baca. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points. That was a full 43.8% of Newark Memorial's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Scott, who scored eight points.
Leading American to victory were Hasanah Gilchrist and Shirina Shi. Gilchrist scored 14 points along with six rebounds and six steals, while Shi scored 28 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Shi has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nasana Shrestha, who scored three points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Newark Memorial has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for American, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
Newark Memorial will be playing at home against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Irvington presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Cougars in California (the Vikings are ranked 233rd, while the Cougars are ranked 805th). As for American, they will head out on the road to take on the Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully James Logan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Wednesday.
