Baseball Recap: Johnson Takes a Loss

Johnson extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 15 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-10. They came up short against the Beach Bulldogs, falling 17-4. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 11, 2025, but that streak is no more.

Jayden Blake made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Amador, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Beach, their win bumped their record up to 8-5. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On Beach's side, Julio Ramos made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs but no hits. Ramos has become a key player for Beach: the team is 6-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-4 otherwise. Ramos was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Beach let Greyson Piercy and Jaymz Javier run wild. Piercy got on base in three of his four plate appearances with eight stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Javier got on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Beach is undefeated when Javier posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was DaMario West, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.

While Johnson had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
