There's no place like home for the University Bulldogs, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They managed a 66-60 win over Weld Central on Thursday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
University's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gage Schminke led the charge by scoring 21 points along with eight rebounds. Schminke is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 21 or more in the last three games he's played. Caden Villarreal was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Weld Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tyler Branch, who scored 19 points along with five assists and four steals. Branch hasn't dropped below 16 points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Elias Cornelius, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
University pushed their record up to 5-11 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for Weld Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.
University will be playing at home against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Resurrection Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 614 points over their last eight games. As for Weld Central, they will head out on the road to challenge the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Fort Morgan comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
