That could be bad news for the rest of the nation as Carmel hasn't even fielded its top progams so far this season. The Greyhounds have the top boys and girls swimming programs in the state and will be looking to add their 12th and 40th state championships, respectively, during the winter sports season.
Carmel, which was the the 2019-20 MaxPreps Cup winner, is way out in front in the fall standings thanks to the prowess of their boys and girls soccer teams. Both are No. 1 in the nation by the MaxPreps national computer rankings.

Meanwhile, the Carmel girls cross country team is ranked No. 6 in the nation by DyeStat and the girls golf team is ranked No. 22 by HighSchoolGolf.org.
The MaxPreps Cup is a competition to recognize the top overall high school sports programs in the nation. Points are awarded based on state championships, runner-up finishes and placement in national rankings. The algorithm gives weighted points based on the state where school competes, popularity of the sport, enrollment level of competition and number of schools competing in the enrollment division. The MaxPreps expert/computer rankings are the source for
football,
girls volleyball,
boys/
girls soccer,
girls flag football and
field hockey national rankings. DyeStat is used for
boys/
girls cross country,
HighSchoolGolf.org is used for boys/girls golf and SwimCloud.com is used for
boys/
girls swimming rankings.
While Carmel has a huge advantage in first place, the race for second place is much closer. Baylor has 337 points and is ranked No. 2 in girls golf, No. 10 in girls soccer and No. 22 in football.
Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) has 323 points and is ranked No. 7 in football and No. 2 in girls volleyball.
Pioneer (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) round out the top five and are the only other schools with at least 300 points. Pioneer is No. 3 in girls field hockey, No. 7 in girls swimming and No. 12 in girls cross country. The Monarchs are No. 12 in football and No. 3 in girls volleyball.
While some state championships have been contested in golf, swimming and cross country, the October MaxPreps Cup Standings are based solely on national rankings. The first MaxPreps Cup standings to involve state championships will appear in November. Rankings used were from Monday, Oct. 27. The top 50 teams in the standings are listed with their overall rating.
