Hilmar is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Ripon Christian is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Yellowjackets will host the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hilmar is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Hilmar is headed into the game having just suffered their closest defeat since March 19th on Friday. They fell just short of Ripon by a score of 4-2.
Marlin Kindberg was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hilmar saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was John Lopez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Ripon Christian got themselves on the board against Sonora on Friday, but Sonora never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Wildcats. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won 11 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Jordan Luisi made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Luisi was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Ripon Christian: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, Stadtler Postma was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trenton Cloward, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Ripon Christian's victory bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Hilmar, their loss dropped their record down to 16-4.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Hilmar has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Ripon Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hilmar beat Ripon Christian 8-4 when the teams last played back in March. Will the Yellowjackets repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
