The La Quinta Aztecs lost against the Pacifica Christian/Orange County Tritons back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. La Quinta took a 51-33 bruising from Pacifica Christian/Orange County. While losing is never fun, La Quinta can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 527th, while Pacifica Christian/Orange County is ranked 49th).
When it comes to explaining why La Quinta lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kaitlyn Mai. Despite the final result, she scored 10 points along with 9 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Vo, who scored 7 points along with 10 rebounds.
Pacifica Christian/Orange County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Caylie Villagrana led the charge by scoring 12 points along with 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauryn Ham, who scored 15 points.
This is the second loss in a row for La Quinta and nudges their season record down to 4-4. As for Pacifica Christian/Orange County, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
La Quinta will head out on the road to face off against El Monte at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. El Monte comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Pacifica Christian/Orange County and El Toro will face off at 3:00 p.m. on December 4th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
