Gustavo Rosas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last 12 games he's played dating back to last season.
In other batting news, DaMaury Olsen was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. He has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 12 times he's played. Joshua Lopez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, KIPP King had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the Pumas by a score of 24-19.
Juan Huerta was a standout: he scored four runs and stole five bases while going 4-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Andy Parga, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
KIPP King always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Making Waves Academy's win bumped their record up to 3-4-1. As for KIPP King, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Making Waves Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like KIPP King struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 17 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Making Waves Academy couldn't quite finish off KIPP King when the teams last played back in March of 2019 and fell 8-6. Can Making Waves Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
