The third road match was the charm for the Monroe Redhawks, as they earned their first road win of the season. They walked away with a 64-57 victory over Anson on Wednesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Monroe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bryson Simpkins led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Simpkins scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Young, who scored 14 points.
Monroe's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-3. As for Anson, they dropped their record down to 9-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Piedmont the next time they take the court. Anson will head out to face Piedmont at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Monroe will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
