Southmoreland managed a 59-53 win over Laurel Highlands. Given Southmoreland's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Laurel Highlands is ranked 529th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Ty Keffer, who scored 20 points. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty Whoric, who scored 11 points.
Laurel Highlands lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ethan Koffler, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Shane Layton, who scored 14 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Southmoreland and bumps their season record up to 12-1. As for Laurel Highlands, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southmoreland will square off against Indiana at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Indiana is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Laurel Highlands, they will head out on the road to square off against Uniontown at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Uniontown will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
