Calvary Baptist hasn't had much luck against Cornerstone Christian recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Crusaders at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cornerstone Christian's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: Calvary Baptist hadn't allowed a single run the last six times they've hit the field. The Cougars' pitchers stepped up to hand Norton Science & Language Academy an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday.

Zaedik Mcphail and Justin Delgadillo did most of the damage at the plate: Mcphail scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Delgadillo scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Mcphail is becoming a predictor of Calvary Baptist's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Elijah Gomez was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
Calvary Baptist was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in nine consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cornerstone Christian). They were the clear victors by a 22-0 margin over Packinghouse Christian Academy on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Crusaders.
Jayden Soto was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Dylan Kelly looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Lucas Gomez-Creguer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Another player making a difference was Ben Frazier, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Cornerstone Christian's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.8 runs over those games. As for Calvary Baptist, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
